About MRLabs

An operator’s view on technology.

MRLabs is built on what 25 years of running real businesses teaches you about software — what it should do, what it shouldn’t, and when the cheapest tool is the right one.

Engineer by education. Operator by trade.

“I’ve spent 25 years on the inside of owner-led businesses — buying the software, breaking it, replacing it, integrating it, and watching what actually moves the numbers.”

I trained as an engineer and went directly into operating businesses — first my own, then in partnership, then advising others. Automotive workshops. Logistics. Halal food import and wholesale. E-commerce. Healthcare clinics. The common thread: each one had a tech stack the owner couldn’t fully explain, and a margin leak nobody had measured.

MRLabs exists because, after 25 years of having that same conversation in different sectors, the gap became impossible to ignore. Owner-led businesses doing $5M to $30M in revenue need a real technology partner — someone who’s stood in the same shoes and knows the difference between a CRM you’ll use and one you won’t.

We don’t sell software. We don’t take vendor kickbacks. We sit on your side of the table and design the system that matches how your business actually runs.

Origin

Why MRLabs exists.

Every owner-led business I’ve worked with has hit the same wall around the $2M–$5M revenue mark: the systems that got them here can’t get them to the next stage. The owner is the integration layer. The owner is the project manager. The owner is the one explaining to the accountant why three spreadsheets and Xero disagree.

They don’t need a $400K Salesforce implementation. They don’t need a strategy deck from a consultancy that won’t be there when the system goes live. They need someone who’s done the work, knows what fits, and stays in the relationship.

“The right system is the one the team will actually use next Tuesday. Everything else is theatre.”

MRLabs is the firm I wished existed when I was building, breaking, and rebuilding my own businesses. Fractional CTO depth without the enterprise overhead. Operator’s instinct without the consultant’s distance. A relationship that runs in three phases — audit, implementation, retainer — each one earning the next.

What sets us apart

Built on operating, not on advising.

There’s a real difference between someone who’s read about running a business and someone who’s done it. That difference shows up in every recommendation we make.

MRLabs

An operator who’s lived the problems you’re solving.

  • 25 years operating businesses, not advising about them
  • Fixed-price audit with payback modelled before you commit
  • Recommendations that match how your team actually works
  • Long-term partnership — same person on Phase 1 and Phase 5
  • We say no when a project doesn’t justify itself
  • No software resale, no vendor kickbacks, no upsell pressure
Theoretical consultancies

Frameworks, slides, and a junior team handed the work.

  • Career consultants who’ve never sat in the owner’s seat
  • Quoted by the hour with scope creep priced in
  • Best-practice frameworks copy-pasted between clients
  • Senior partner sells; junior team delivers
  • Project ends when the deck is delivered — adoption is your problem
  • Vendor relationships shape the recommendation
Public commitments

What you can expect from us — in writing.

These aren’t aspirations. They’re written into how every MRLabs engagement is scoped, priced, and delivered. If we can’t hold to them, we shouldn’t take the work.

Pricing quoted upfront. Audit price is fixed in writing within 24 hours of discovery. No bait-and-switch.
No upsell pressure. Phase 2 only if the audit justifies it. Walk away if it doesn’t.
ROI-modelled recommendations. Every Phase 2 project ships with a projected payback window.
Fixed-scope deliverables. What’s in, what’s out, written and signed before work starts.
Confidentiality from kickoff. NDA in place. All materials returned or destroyed on request.
Decisions, not just analysis. The audit ends with a Phase 2 SOW you can act on tomorrow.

“If this sounds like the partner you’ve been looking for, let’s talk. If it doesn’t, we’ve saved us both a meeting.”
